After much analysis and thinking, I decided to establish the next “Lock and Load” storm chase tour for this Thursday.
Before I go on, Wednesday is looking good for areas of far western Oklahoma and Kansas along the dry line. They will no doubt see a few scattered storms in this area.
But the distance to the chase and my teaching schedule are prompting me to consider Thursday instead.
I don’t think Thursday is that bad of a day actually. The humidity values will climb a bit more by then. And I think there is more shear generally speaking over portions of Oklahoma and northern Texas. The surface winds may not be as favorable nor the intensity of the dry line but I have a feeling these might just sharpen up as we get closer to the day.
The target area would be much of southern Oklahoma and northern Texas. We would leave Springfield no later than 10 a.m. This is a “Lock and Load” chase so an overnight stay Thursday is part of the plan with the tour returning to Springfield Friday.
